Welcome Information

Below is the information we provide in our welcome email, reproduced here for easy reference. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Please don’t buy any uniform yet, we usually suggest waiting two or three weeks to make sure that new members are happy and settled first. [your child] can wear something comfortable for playing indoor/outdoor games but not his best clothes in case the [section] do a messy activity!

Uniform is a [section uniform] and if we do not have any in stock they can be purchased either online (Scout Store) or from the District Scout Shop, Hall Lane, Lathom, L40 5UN on a Friday evening (7 to 8.30pm) or Saturday morning (10 to 12 noon) during term time. He will need one for his investiture, which is usually after 3 – 4 weeks and they cost approx. £18. He will be presented with a neckerchief and badges at his investiture. Some [section] also wear a [section] polo shirt under their jumper or when it is warmer. For formal occasions such as Church Parade, St George’s Day Parade and Remembrance Day, school shoes and school trousers are worn with the [section uniform].

Our subs are currently £10 per month. This is payable by Direct Debit and we ask that you set this up before your child’s first meeting if possible. Please go to our website and click on ‘Direct Debit’ at the top of the page. Subs is taken between 5th to 8th of the month and if [your child] decides he doesn’t want to continue, you can cancel the Direct Debit.

We have an amazing website which is run by one of our parents. If you do not want photos of [your child] to be used on our website, please contact me via email. We do not use names.

If [your child] has any dietary/health requirements or any additional needs that we need to be aware of, please could you update me. The volunteer adults are not able to provide one to one support should your child require it.

As we’re part of the Christ Church community, we attend church parade at Christ Church once a term and sometimes take part in activities with the church.

We also ask parents/carers to join the Helpers’ Rota and support us once a half term on a [section meeting evening]. Please let me know which date(s) you are able to help with. If you feel you would like to become more involved and help more regularly, we would be very grateful. Have a chat with either myself or Lesley about arranging a Scout Association DBS and undertaking the Scout Association’s on-line training. There is no cost involved, just your time.
